Baking Soda for Grownups

There are so many uses for these two ingredients that I could write a love song about them.

1. External Face and Body Scrub

I am known for my pale skin and am completely different from my four siblings. But I love to keep my skin bright and fresh. About once or twice per week, I use a combination of baking soda and lemon juice as a scrub on my face and arms and if I'm feeling in the mood, as an entire body scrub.

Here's the formula:

1 handful of baking soda

1 heavy splash of a freshly-cut lemon juice wedge

Mix together and scrub on face (gently!) and anywhere else. You can leave it on for a fee minutes and rinse with cold water.

ALSO: You can add honey as a moisturizer and test out whether it works better for your skin to put it on after you scrub as a temporary mask or with your scrub.

2. Internal Detoxifier/De-Bloater

After a long night out or a little too much pizza, I put baking soda in hot water with a slice of lemon and sip. The baking soda/sodium bicarbonate acts as a remedy for indigestion, bloating and the lemon helps to flush out impurities and brighten skin. Together they are magic. Stick to lemon water on a regular basis and only use baking soda for an occasional extra boost.

3. Cleans!

You can use baking soda as a toothpaste booster to whiten teeth and lemon as a breath freshener if you are out at a restaurant and don't have a mint. You can also use baking soda and lemon together to clean hard surfaces (kitchen counters, sinks, etc.) and baking soda as a straight up stain remover (just make a paste out of water and baking soda and rub on the stain).

So basically, you could give these as a wedding or baby shower gift and it would change their life.

Keep it simple, Keep it natural. Keep it fresh.
